Applying Makeup For Beginners - Foundation
1. First you want to find your undertone
Your undertone is the color underneath the surface of your skin. Your undertone will be either warm, cool, or neutral. The easiest way to find your skin's undertone is to look at the color of your veins in your wrists. If your veins are more blue, you have a cool undertone. If you have green veins, you have a warm undertone. If you have both green and blue veins like myself, then you have a neutral undertone. You then want to find your shade of foundation or your surface tone. Find a shade that closet matches you, and test on your chest (you want to match your face to your chest). If the shade disappears into your skin, you have found your match.
2. Moisturize
Applying moisturizer before getting started is very important. You want to make sure your skin is well hydrated so your makeup has a smooth surface to adhere to. (Wait a few minutes before going on to the next step)3. Primers
Primers aren't totally necessary but great if your have certain skin concerns. For example, if you have large pores you can buy a pore minimizing primer to help fill in those pores and minimize them. There are primers for everything. It's all about what your concerns are.4. Applying Foundation
How to choose to apply your foundation is really up to you. There are a variety of tools you can use to do this.-Your hands (the warmth of your hands will help melt the product in your skin)
-Cosmetic Sponge (wedges you can find at drugstores)
-Beauty Blender
-Foundation Brush
-Stippling brush
5. Setting Your Foundation
If you want your foundation to stay put, or help control the oil in your skin you will want to set your foundation with a powder.
