5 Minute Skin Care Prep - What to Use BEFORE You Apply Your Makeup

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Skin Care Prep, What to use before you apply makeup, pre makeup skin care, how to get radiant dewy skin

When it comes to applying your makeup, skin care is very important because it's the base makeup sits on. Finding products that work for your skin will overall help your makeup last throughout the day and also affect how it appears on your skin.

LIP MASK

Best Lip Treatment For Dry Cracked Lips
Crusty lips or smooth lips? We all want our lipsticks to apply super smooth because who likes cracked lips? Find a good lip balm or hey, even a lip mask will do the trick. Personally, I have very dry lips all throughout the year. I have found a lip mask that I apply first thing when starting my skin care/makeup routine. Applying your preferred lip treatment first will allow time for the product to soak into your lips resulting in smooth lips for your lipstick! (PS if you're looking for the key to applying liquid lipstick, check out this video)

EYE CREAM

Eye Creams for Dry Under EyesDoes your concealer or powder tend to crease under your eyes? Have you tried applying an eye cream? No matter your age, applying an eye cream could make a difference in your makeup application. I've had dry under eyes since I was 22 years old (at least that's when I noticed LOL) and I've been applying eye cream under my eyes ever since. For the past year I've been using this one by Charolette Lacroix but I'm currently on a hunt for a new one since I barely have any left as you can see in the video below lol.

SPOT TREATMENT

What to put on top of blemishes, how to make pimples go awayNow of course this will vary from person to person, but there is a lot of us out there that break out during THAT time of the month or if you're like me, I have more breakouts in my 20's than I ever did in my teens.

Applying a spot treatment helps treat existing blemishes that have already surfaced. The most effective over the counter spot treatments are ones that contain benzoyl peroxide.

SERUM
face serums for dry skin

Serums are good for your problem areas. For example does your skin need more moisture? Do you want to focus on skin aging? Everyone has their own skin concerns so finding a serum that focuses on that is key. For example, lately I've been using an acne wash that has been drying out my skin. Therefore I need more moisture in skin and have found using a serum that focuses on moisturizing my skin is best for me at this moment. The one I've been using is by H2O Beauty.

MOISTURIZER

The Secret to Radiant Glowy Skin,This is personally my favorite part of my skin care routine. It's so refreshing to me and LOVE how my skin feels after applying my moisturizer. Again, finding a moisturizer that fits your needs is best. Are you more oily or more dry?

Lately I've been using Ole Henriksons C Rush Brightening Cream Gel. It smells amazing and it gives my skin the perfect glow. I feel so refreshed after using it. Another one of my fav's is H2O PLUS Face Oasis, it's been a favorite of mine for years. It has a gel like consistency that feels very cooling to the skin and is also very hydrating.

PRIMER

Drug Store Makeup Primers for Smooth Skin, Blurring Primers, Makeup Primers,Do want to mattify your skin or do you want to smooth out your imperfections? Applying a mattifying primer will help your skin from looking oily throughout the day. I like a primer that smooths out the skin like NYX's Angel Veil. It smooths my fine lines in my forehead and large pores around my nose. NYX's Angel Veil really gets the job done for being a drug store product.

What are your key skin care products? What are your fav's? What do you feel like is missing? Check out this YouTube video on my 5 Minute Skin Care Prep:

Blue vs Pink Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water - What's the Difference?

Sunday, May 7, 2017

What’s the difference between the blue and pink bottle of Garnier Micellar Water? Looking at the bottle it honestly looks the same other than one is blue and one is pink.. took me forever to figure it out (b/c I obviously don’t like to read). The blue bottle of Micellar Water is actually supposed to be better at removing waterproof makeup. The blue bottle leaves more of an oily feeling vs the pink which doesn’t leave any residue. See
what I think here! https://youtu.be/gYV0kNjQrds

"Non-Touring" - The No Contouring Look - Newest Beauty Trend

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

WATCH ON YOUTUBE HERE

WHAT IS IT? A more natural way of contouring.. still highlighting but instead of using a cool powder normally used for contouring, you’re just bronzing your face with a warm shade giving you a much natural look.

I’ve been wanting to go for a more natural look as of lately and I was doing this “non-touring” technique without even noticing this was such a thing. Non-touring is perfect if you want a quick, natural, yet put together look.

How To Apply Foundation For Beginners - Makeup 101

Monday, November 30, 2015

Want to learn more about makeup? Click Subscribe so all new videos pop up in your YouTube video feed.

Applying Makeup For Beginners - Foundation

1. First you want to find your undertone

Your undertone is the color underneath the surface of your skin. Your undertone will be either warm, cool, or neutral. The easiest way to find your skin's undertone is to look at the color of your veins in your wrists. If your veins are more blue, you have a cool undertone. If you have green veins, you have a warm undertone. If you have both green and blue veins like myself, then you have a neutral undertone.

You then want to find your shade of foundation or your surface tone. Find a shade that closet matches you, and test on your chest (you want to match your face to your chest). If the shade disappears into your skin, you have found your match.

2. Moisturize

Applying moisturizer before getting started is very important. You want to make sure your skin is well hydrated so your makeup has a smooth surface to adhere to. (Wait a few minutes before going on to the next step)

3. Primers

Primers aren't totally necessary but great if your have certain skin concerns. For example, if you have large pores you can buy a pore minimizing primer to help fill in those pores and minimize them. There are primers for everything. It's all about what your concerns are.

4. Applying Foundation

How to choose to apply your foundation is really up to you. There are a variety of tools you can use to do this.
-Your hands (the warmth of your hands will help melt the product in your skin)
-Cosmetic Sponge (wedges you can find at drugstores)
-Beauty Blender
-Foundation Brush
-Stippling brush

5. Setting Your Foundation

If you want your foundation to stay put, or help control the oil in your skin you will want to set your foundation with a powder.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE BEST AIR BRUSH TAN RESULTS

Monday, May 26, 2014

how to achieve the best air brush tan, spray tan, organic tan, dha tanWant a nice healthy tan without the harmful effects from the sun? Scared that self tanner that will look uneven and orange? If that's the case, you should try getting a professional air brushed tan. I'm not talking about the machines in some salons that you walk-in to that sprays you from head to foot. I'm talking about actually having a PROFESSIONAL that uses an air brush machine to give you a natural, even looking tan! I recently received a professional air brushed tan and have some tips and tricks for you to achieve the BEST results.

Prepping at home:
Shave:
Freshly shaved legs are better than stubbles! For maximum results, I recommend shaving the day of your appointment for the smoothest legs possible! If you want to know a little secret of mine, use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. Hair conditioner moisturizes your legs, leaving them noticeably soft afterwards. I NEVER get razor burn with conditioner. After trying this trick, you'll never buy shaving cream again! (pshh.. I haven't bought shaving cream in years.) Don't forget to shave under arms and bikini area.

shaving tips
Exfoliate:
Remove all the dead, dry skin from your body. This can be done by using a loofa and a good sugar scrub. You can find loofa's at target or local dollar store. As far as sugar scrubs, you can make you own (I made a DIY lip scrub found here, which can also be used for your body), or you can buy your own sugar scrub. I use a sugar scrub found at Esthetica, which leaves my skin feeling silky smooth afterwards. They key is use some type of abrasive to scrub off dry skin, especially on elbow's, knee's, and the bottom of your feet.

Moisturize:
Moisturizing helps achieve an even tan. We don't want a blotchy - uneven spray tan do we? Generously, apply a good moisturizer to your whole body, ensuring to get every part. My favorite is Jergens Shea Butter.

tanning tips

TIP: Before you get to the salon for your spray tan, I recommend getting any waxing you need done first. For example, you don't want to get your eyebrows waxed AFTER or else you'll have white marks from where the wax removed the color. Same goes for your bikini area!

THE TAN

NAKED OR BATHING SUIT?
Deciding to wear a bathing suit or getting sprayed naked really depends on your personal preferences. Do you want tan lines or do you feel comfortable going topless. It's completely up to you! No shame ladies, we're all women and just think how many naked people the person air brushing you has seen before you! I personally don't mind either way, but I did wear a black strapless bikini for picture purposes. If you wear a bikini, make sure it's a dark bikini or something you don't mind messing up!

Priming!
The person spray tanning you will apply a primer and a barrier cream. Ally, from Esthetica, first sprayed my whole body with a primer and then applied a barrier cream to my cuticles on my fingers and toes, and also to the palms of my hands. This step helps prevent dark spots in those areas and helps make your tan look as natural as possible!

Tip: If you're using anything for acne or a retinal cream, it's suggested to stop using this product 1 week before you get your air brush tan. (Only if your choose to get your face air brushed.)

The Air Brush
I'm naturally very pale, so I chose to go with a medium color. Ally applied the product to the front of my body first, working in small sections at a time. Once she was finished with one part of my body, she would dry that area before moving on to the next part. I like the fact that the spray doesn't have a strong scent (thank god it doesn't have that corn chip smell) and doesn't leave you feeling sticky afterwards. The whole process took about 30 minutes.

Getting professionally air brushed gives you a more even tan and makes it look more natural than a self tanner or a walk-in spray machine would do. Ally ensured every part of my body was sprayed and afterwards rubbed the barrier cream off my cuticles and palms. She even made sure I didn't have any excess product in my knuckles. Talk about paying attention to detail!

Tip: Come to your appointment with baggy clothes!

Maintaining
tanning tips, million dollar tanThe tan gradually gets darker and by the third day you will see the maximum results. Your spray tan will last anywhere between 1-2 weeks. To achieve a longer tan, it's best to not exfoliate when showering. Also, you can touch up with a self tanner as it fades. I recommend Million Dollar Tan (CLICK HERE), which is fabulous organic self tanner.

SkinCeuticals at Esthetica - Glycolic Lactic Peel

Monday, May 12, 2014

I'm so excited to share with you guys that I had my very first skin peel this past week. SkinCeuticals came to Esthetica Salon and Spa to share their incredible products.  All that was needed was an appointment at Esthetica, with a $50 deposit which went towards SkinCeutical products.

esthetica

THE PEEL

The peel I received was called a Glycolic Lactic Peel. The GL peel itself is actually very quick. There was a little bit of tingling experienced but nothing that can't be handled ladies. It was relaxing and refreshing! Some benefits of the GL peel include: improving the appearance of hyper pigmentation and dullness, reducing fine line and wrinkles, and smoother and softer skin.

THE RESULTS
My skin felt so soft and my skin tone was even (no redness!) I noticed that each client that received the peel had an wonderful glow to their skin.

AFTER THE PEEL

Afterwards, an account executive for SkinCeuticals, Denise Gannon, helped recommend products for at home use.  SkinCeuticals is a brand that is clinical based and has one mission- provide advanced skin care that is backed by science. They are truly passionate about skin care and make it their first priority. SkinCeuticals is big on protecting the skin (get your sun block girls) and providing the skin with the nutrients it needs, such as Vitamin C. They provide products for treatments that can be done in doctors offices or medical spas. SkinCeutical products are medical-grade and can be combined together to meet specific needs and skin types. SkinCeuticals is highly recommend by doctors and skin professionals and have been mentioned in magazines such as Allure and Vogue.

PHYSICAL EYE UV DEFENSE
I was able to try SkinCeuticals Physical Eye UV Defense, which is a non-migrating protective eye base to enhance skin tone. Did you know that the skin around your eye shows the first signs of aging?  The Physical Eye Defense has SPF 50, which helps protect your eyes from the sun.

Not only does it protect your eyes but  it is also very hydrating. The skin under my eyes is typically very dry. When applying concealer under my eyes, I notice a lot of cracking due to dryness. The Physical Eye UV Defense alleviates the dryness under my eyes while protecting my skin from the sun at the same time. It's a great base/primer for make up application.

OVERALL
Overall, I'm blown away. I can't believe how incredible the quality of these products are. If you have specific concerns and feel as though drug store products aren't for you, definitely try SkinCeuticals. Drug store products are meant for a broader market, where as SkinCeuticals is a medical-grade product meant to meet specific needs.

Remember every skin care regimen needs three significant elements - a product to prevent, a product to protect, and a product to correct! What are you missing?

6 Gift Ideas for Mother's Day

1. Perfume
Getting your mom perfume is probably one of the easiest gifts. Don't know mom's favorite? Find where she keeps all her perfume, see what she's low on, and buy her a new bottle. She'll be like "oh my god, how did you know this was my favorite?" (Well obviously it's the one you use the most of mom, but she doesn't need to know that LOL)

Mentioned in video: Tom Ford - Black Orchid -> CLICK HERE

2. New Bag
If you're on a budget you can honestly find a nice bag at Target! Target has so many cute bags for under $40. If you want to be a little bit fancier, go for a Michael Kors bag. Mom will love it!

7 Skincare Products Every Woman Should Have

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

It's never too late (or too soon) to start taking care of your skin.  You want to take care of your skin to keep it looking young and beautiful, longer. Having your own skin care regimen will also make you feel pampered and who doesn't like to be pampered? I don't have to go to spa for my skin to feel great because I have all these great products at home to help.  No matter the brand, there's seven skin care products that every girl should have.

1. Makeup Remover
No girl should ever sleep with their make up on. It's horrible for your skin and eyes. If you find a good makeup remover that easily takes your eye makeup off, you might actually look forward to taking it off at night :) My favorite is  Nuance's Cucumber and Rosewater Make-Up Remover by Salma Hayek. Can be found at your local CVS.

2. Cleanser
Take away all the gunk with a good cleanser. Whether it's a high end or drugstore cleanser, find one that meets your needs. I've gone through so many cleansers over the years and I've recently found a cleanser that I see myself sticking with for awhile. I love Cetaphil's Gentle Cleanser. A little pricey for a drugstore product but it's totally worth it. Use this in combination with a Clarisonic Brush and you'll face will feel squeaky clean:)

3. Mask (used weekly)
Find a good mask to use once or twice a week. A mask will give your face a deep clean and draw out any impurities. Masks will also help exfoliate to take off any dead skin cells. I have two masks that I go back and forth with. I use Michael Todd's Pumpkin Spice mask, which smells amazing by the way, and Michael Todd's Charcoal Detoxifying Facial Mask.

For those who are new to skin care and into organics, I highly recommend trying Michael Todd's products! Click here to visit their website.

4.  Toner
Toner removes anything that a cleanser or mask may have missed. It also restores the skins pH without drying out your skin. This is a quick an easy step. Put a little on a cotton round wipe your face and that's it! A good toner to try is Michael Todd's Cranberry Antiox Hydrating Anti-Aging Toner or you can try your own favorite drugstore brand.

5. Serum
Taking care of your skin is a process. Serums are important because they leave out water and have a high concentration of active ingredients. They are several serums targeted to specific problem areas. Dark spot serums, anti-aging serums, skin-firming serums.. to name a few. Therefore an anti-aging serum is going to give you a high concentration of ingredients to help with anti-aging! If you don't have any skin specific problems, you can go with a regular replenishing serum like Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Because Serum's have a high concentration of active ingredients, they are a little bit pricier but you can still find a good serum in the drugstore for under $30.

6. Eye Cream
Reduce puffiness and dark under eye circles with an eye cream. Your eyes are the first to show aging so take care of it now :)

7. A Good Moisturizer
To lock everything into place, pat your face with a good moisturizer with SPF. SPF will help protect your face from the sun, which will help you look younger, longer. Choose a moisturizer that meets your needs and your budget. You can find a good moisturizer without breaking your pockets. My favorite drug store moisturizers are Aveeno's Postively Radiant and Cetpahil. My favorite high end would be Cliniques Dramatically Different Moisturizer.
